James Rose is the next known brewer at the Nairn Brewery, after Hugh Ross. He was recorded as a master brewer employing two men in 1881: his sons David Bernard and Hugh.
James died in 1885 and the business was taken on by David.

The Nairn Brewery consisted of a small group of buildings on Mill Road, organised around a central courtyard. The brewery was destroyed by fire in 1903 and most of the ground has since been landscaped.
