Elizabeth Gass

Elizabeth Gass (1799-1858) took on the Annan Brewery on the death of her husband Gavin. In 1851 she was described as a brewer, maltster, and farmer of ten acres, employing five men,

She eventually recruited Benjamin Wikeley, her nephew, as the brewery manager, who was still in post when the brewery was offered for sale or let in 1858.

The Annan Brewery was located near the river Annan, which gave it easy access to the Solway Firth for the shipping of its products.
