Kilsyth

Historical County: Stirlingshire

Modern County: North Lanarkshire

Kilsyth was originally a weaving town, which then shifted to the mining of coal and ironstone. It was home to one brewery, but also had a strong Temperance Movement, which was successful in voting the town dry in 1920. This resulted in the closure of seventeen licensed premises, including the brewery. It remained dry until 1967.
