James McLaurin

Little is known about James McLaurin other than that he took on the Newton Stewart Brewery from his father David, and that his dog died in unfortunate circumstances. James died in 1833 and was succeeded in the business by his brother Ludovic.

Breweries and other buildings

The Newton Stewart Brewery was located on the Gorbals (later named King Street) by the river Cree. Some of the buildings still stand, including "the commodious dwelling-house", and have been converted to residential properties.
