Hugh Watt and Co

The partnership of Hugh Watt & Co was formed by Hugh Watt, James Ritchie, and William Gray and leased the Saltcoats Brewery from Robert Reid Cunninghame from 1785. William's association with the partnership appears to have ended in 1792, and in 1793 James Ritchie died leaving Hugh as the sole partner. Hugh then carried on the business on his own account until his death in 1836.

Breweries and other buildings

The Saltcoats Brewery was established by Robert Reid Cunninghame in about 1783. It was offered to let after Hugh's death, but brewing appears to have ceased at that point and the surrounding land was let to farmers. The site is now occupied by commercial premises.
