The Dunfermline Brewery was in existence from at least the early 1800s and ran from the High Street south to Canmore Street.

It was owned by John Kilgour from at least 1811, and then by his son Alexander, before it was acquired by James Brown in 1873. It ceased operations after James died and was described as empty in 1904.
