Thomas Stewart leased the Kirkland Brewery and by 1851 was employing two men. In 1861 he was also dewcribed as the gas works manager, a maltster, and a seedsman.
He was declared bankrupt in 1863 and his estate was sequestrated. After he was cleared of his debts in 1866 he became a baker.
Location: Ceres

At the time of Thomas Stewart the Kirkland Brewery was owned by John Hepburn Crichton, and was described as a "small common brewery … for brewing ale and porter" and as "adjoining the manse" in 1855.
Brewing would appear to have ended soon after 1865, and the premises were described as "unoccupied" in 1875. Part of the site has been cleared for modern housing, but buildings adjacent to the manse are still in commercial use.
